La Fisheria: Upscale Mexican Coastal Seafood in Downtown Houston

6:00 AM

La Fisheria re-opened last year after being devastated by Hurricane Harvey in 2017, just months after their initial opening. The journey that they overcame to get where they are today is incredible, and it's amazing to see how far they have come after our visit last week.

First let's talk about how beautiful the restaurant is. The floral wall, reflective light fixtures, and blue accents scream coastal vibes, and we're all about it.

Not surprisingly, they have put just as much thought into their food as their vibrant decor. They serve Mexican-styled seafood with creative twists of flair that make for a unique dining experience.  One of the more intriguing options was the Pompano Al Limon, an entire Pompano (type of fish) is fried in lemon butter and served on a platter. It can be a bit of a shock initially, but it is absolutely worth it. There are very few bones, and the combination of crisp skin and tender meat dipped in the sauce make for a bite to remember. Additional favorites were the Vuelve a la Vida, a.k.a. the "hangover cure", a spicy seafood soup and the Tamal de Elote con Camarones, a creamy twist on traditional tamales.

  3. I’ve been following this restaurant since Chef Aquiles had his TV Show in Mexico and his episodes were about opening La Fisheria here in Houston! Little did I know I will move to Houston years later from Mexico and I’ve been wanting to eat this restaurant but Harvey affected them badly and they just recovered!
If I win it will be a dream come true! The flan looks amazing and the soup Vuelve a La Vida really makes a statement because they bounced back from Harvey! Not to mention that it looks delicious and I can only imagine the amazing taste! Please pick me! It would mean a lot!
    Blessings!

  4. I will be visiting Houston from Canada March 4-7th. I am really looking forward to trying different restaurants that I am unable to experience locally. Seafood is typically always my first choice so La Fisheria is right up my alley! If I win the gift card, I will likely order Pampano Al Limon!

  7. My husband and I are moving back to Houston next week. Following Hurricane Harvey, my husband’s business was affected and we relocated to Fort Worth. We are finally ready to head back to Houston and we have been missing great seafood being so far from the coast. So I would love to try the VUELVE A LA VIDA!! Looks unbelievable. And of course some margs :)
